Shelter Cymru – Response to Housing LCO announcement

The news that the Housing Legislative Competence Order is to be introduced to Parliament without amendment has been warmly welcomed by Wales’s leading housing and homelessness charity.

John Puzey, director of Shelter Cymru, said: “This is excellent news for people and their homes in Wales. Many organisations put a great deal of time and energy into the LCO consultation process and there was widespread consensus regarding its final content as approved by the National Assembly in February this year.

“Public, private and third sector groups, as well as Assembly Members from across the political spectrum, were agreed on the need for wider, more consistent powers to be devolved to the Welsh Government to enable us to develop policies and solutions to address the housing needs of people in Wales.

“We commend the Deputy Minister for Housing and the Wales Office for their efforts in getting the LCO back on track so quickly after its fall before the UK General Election, and we hope that it will now complete its passage through Parliament without any further hitches.”
