Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, has said that the holding of this year’s European and World Down the Line (DLT) Clay Shooting Championships in Powys, has put Mid Wales firmly on the world stage and has been a significant boost for the local economy.
The two sets of championships are being held at the Mid Wales Clay Shooting Centre, Trefeglwys, in the same week. The centre hosted the European Championships from 24th-25th July, whilst the World Championships are being held from 26th-29th July.
The Montgomeryshire AM attended a prize giving ceremony at the centre and presented prizes to the European winners. He also attended an opening reception, which officially launched the start of the World Championships. The Member of Parliament for Montgomeryshire, Glyn Davies MP, will be attending the prize giving ceremony for the World Championships this coming Saturday.
Commenting, Mr George said:
“To hold one prestigious championship of this nature in a year would be impressive but to hold two – including the World Championships – in the same week is incredible.
“I would like to personally congratulate the Williams family and all those at the Mid Wales Clay Shooting Centre who have been instrumental in bringing both these championships to Mid Wales because not only does it bring hundreds of people into Powys, it also puts Mid Wales and our nation on show to the world.
“I have spoken to a lot of people in Llanidloes and Newtown this week and from the feedback I have received from businesses across Montgomeryshire, it has provided the local economy with a much needed boost.”
