Assembly Member for Wrexham Lesley Griffiths has backed a weeklong nationwide campaign hoping to Keep Wales Tidy.
Ms Griffiths teamed up with the Wrexham Tidy Towns team and Caia Park Partnership to take part in a litter pick and help promote the Tidy Wales initiative.
Keep Wales Tidy aim to create a better local environment in every part of Wales and for people to have a sense of pride about their communities. This is achieved through education, community action and by supporting local government.
In 2008, the organisation launched the Tidy Towns initiative in which Welsh Government funding was made available to local authorities to help residents make their neighbourhoods cleaner, safer and tidier. Tidy Towns teams are located across Wales with one based in Wrexham. They encourage community ventures such as clean-ups, access improvements and transformation projects.
Lesley Griffiths AM said:
“It is important we feel proud of our community and for over 40 years, Keep Wales Tidy has helped clear and improve communal areas, protect the environment and preserve the natural landscape.”
“It was great to be invited by the Wrexham branch of the organisation to take part in their Tidy Wales Week initiative, providing the perfect opportunity to work with Caia Park Partnership and witness first-hand the hard work taking place to help maintain and tidy the open spaces and public areas.”
“We managed to clear a significant amount of litter and all the volunteers involved did a wonderful job. Their care and dedication for the community has contributed to making the local neighbourhood a better, cleaner place to live.”
