Crime and Punishment Then and Now – Half Term Week At Llancaiach Fawr Manor – Monday 15th to Friday 19th February.
Join us for the annual court sessions in the Manor and then see how they compare with 21st Century justice and punishment. You can sit in on the cases brought before Colonel Prichard as he presides over the court sessions in the Great Hall and dispenses justice ’17th century style’.
Who is up in front of the Justice of the Peace yet again? What is a ‘Scold’s bridle’? How will the drunken horse stealer be dealt with? Will he escape with his life? Find out what happens to the hungry boy who stole a mutton pie.
The ‘accused’ will be on hand afterwards in the education centre to talk about 17th century crime and how it was dealt with then and what the modern equivalents of the offences are now…think of horse theft as joy riding…but the consequences for the culprits are very different.
Members of the Cynon Valley Crime Prevention Team and Caerphilly Community Safety Officers will be on hand to offer advice on protecting your home, discuss local policing and safety issues that affect you and find out how you can work in partnership with these organisations to improve our communities. There will be plenty of activities for youngsters and the chance to try on police equipment, sit in the stocks and find out the gory details of past punishments!
Manor opens at 10am. 4 Court sessions during the day – first one at 11am, last one at 3.30pm.
‘Meet the Crime Teams’ and activities in the education centre are free of charge for those not entering the Manor 10am-4pm.
