To correspond with National Road Safety Week, Gwynedd Council’s Road Safety Unit have launched a new version of the Carys Ofalus (Careful Carys) Songs CD. The CD was made by the popular Welsh singer Meinir Gwilym and the voices of Ysgol y Gelli pupils.
The book/ CD package includes eight songs with each one discussing a different aspects of road safety. Gwynedd Council will be providing the packages to all of the primary schools and special schools in Gwynedd over the coming weeks.
Carys Ofalus is Gwynedd Council’s road safety character who promotes road safety awareness. Carys the cat has been visiting schools throughout the county for some time raising awareness about the dangers of the road.
Councillor Gareth Roberts, Gwynedd Council’s Portfolio Leader for the Environment said:
“Ensuring that Gwynedd’s young pupils learn about road safety is vitally important, and we hope that by learning in a fun and different way the children will remember the important lessons.
“We are delighted that Meinir Gwilym is part of the new CD and that the children had the chance to sing songs which remind them of the importance of being careful and keeping safe. Learning simple rules like these can make a huge difference to the safety of children on the roads.”
There is a CD-rom, CD and website telling Carys’ story as she teaches children how to use the road carefully. To view the website go to www.dyffgwynedd.net
