Police officers in action during yesterdays drugs raids
South Wales Police officers carried out a series of raids yesterday (Wednesday 23rd July) across Cardiff as part of an operation being conducted by the Force Intelligence & Organised Crime Unit.
Drugs warrants were used at addresses in the Fairwater, Canton, Llanishen, Llanedeyrn and Rumney areas of the city and over 50 kilogrammes of cannabis with an estimated street value of £250,000 and £120,000 in cash was recovered during the operation.
Following the execution of the warrants, six men were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A and class B drugs across south Wales and money laundering.
These include a 52 year-old man from Fairwater, a 25 year-old man from Llanishen, two men aged 52 and 62 from Canton, a 62 year-old man from Rumney and 45 year-old man from Llanedeyrn.
All six are currently in custody.
Detective Inspector Tudor Thomas, from the Force Intelligence & Organised Crime Unit, said: “Today’s raids and arrests are linked to an investigation into the supply of large quantities of Class A and B controlled drugs across the South Wales area.
“We have carried out searches at various properties across Cardiff targeting people who are involved in the wholesale supply and distribution of controlled drugs. Over the course of the investigation we have recovered substantial quantities of drugs and cash.
“These arrests send another strong message to organised criminals that we will target you and look at every opportunity to disrupt the availability of illicit drugs and seize criminal finances and assets.”
