Skating in a wet and windy Winter Wonderland

WW_LARGECROWDS have been flocking to Swansea‘s Waterfront Winterland attraction despite the wild weather conditions.

Figures show over 3,000 people have already taken to the ice rinks in the grounds of the National Waterfront Museum since the event opened on Sunday, November 15.

A 44-metre high Admiral Giant Wheel and Santa’s Grotto are among the other fun that’s been made available.

New for 2009 is a covered spectator area and Rocky’s Rink- the first ice-rink specifically for children in Wales.

A variety of funfair rides, entertainment and refreshment stalls is also on hand.

Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: “Crowds flocking to Waterfront Winterland despite the wind and rain of late is a real indication of the event’s popularity.

“It’s been a huge success since its introduction but additional features this year means Christmas 2009 will be a better experience than ever before.

“The attraction is wonderful fun for the whole family.”

Waterfront Winterland is open until January 3 and people interested in ice-skating there are asked to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Fun on the ice can be reserved by either logging onto www.waterfrontwinterland.com or contacting Plymouth Street’s Swansea Tourist Information Centre on 01792 637300.

Tickets can also be bought in the Skate House at the attraction.

Waterfront Winterland is additionally giving people a chance to win a Nintendo DSi.

People can enter the competition by picking up a Christmas bauble postcard at any Swansea Council venue and posting their entries in the Winterland’s Skate House.
