South Wales Police has seen a small increase, of 0.7%, in the number of racist incidents compared to the same period last year.
Over the past year the South Wales Police has been working hard to encourage reporting of racist incidents and to improve satisfaction levels for victims.
Work has been ongoing looking at the management of these incidents with a view to improving the service given to victims.
The South Wales Police Minorities Support Unit has supported this work to improve the awareness of front line staff through training.
The most recent data shows that overall hate crime victims’ satisfaction has improved from 68.5% and is now at 82.6%.
Deputy Chief Constable Colette Paul said, “In line with our Force vision of being the best at understanding and responding to our communities’ needs, we are determined to provide the best possible service to victims of racist crimes and all hate crime incidents, and are actively seeking to increase the number of reported incidents so we can effectively deal with them and provide victims with the service they deserve”.
