Three new independent niche shops will be open in Llangefni town centre by this Christmas.
Bevan Caravan and Camping Supplies will be selling equipment in a new shop located in Church Street.
The new store is receiving small business grant support under the County Council’s Local Investment Fund as it will be providing a new and different retail product which is not currently provided in the area.
Business owners Neil and Tracey Bevan have also received welcomed business advice and support from Menter Môn.
Neil explained, “We’ve been visiting the Island as holiday makers for over 30 years, and last year decided that we wouldn’t be going home and instead we would support ourselves on the Island. We felt that Llangefni had so much to offer visitors with the market and range of shops, but realised that there wasn’t a specific shop aimed at caravanners and campers. We’re hoping that we can tempt visitors and tourists to the town by giving them a product which they need.”
“In the current economic market we realise that more people are buying tents and caravans as a cheaper alternative than going abroad. With this in mind we feel that it is a growing trend and will be here to stay. We’re passionate about helping Island businesses and have sourced 90% of our consumables locally. We’ve received so much support from the County Council, Menter Môn and local shop owners that we feel we should return the compliment.”
Cain – Ynys Môn is another small business opening in Bridge Street and will specialise in hand-made jewellery and gifts.
Owner Rhian Sinnott added, “I’m thoroughly looking forward to opening my new shop in the town, which will provide a base for my business. I regularly attend craft fairs and events, and feel that the next step was to have a presence on my local high street. I have also set-up a website to promote my shop to a global audience, which will include updated product lines.”
A third startup business which is aiming to open within the next few weeks is the The Bed Shop, also on Church Street, owned by Jamie McGregor.
Town Centre Management Officer, Alan Southall, has welcomed the new investment. He said, “This new small business investment is excellent news for Llangefni town centre, helping to improve the offer to shoppers and visitors. After these three openings, the commercial vacancy rate will have reduced to the UK average, and I hope to see the number of vacant shops reduced even further in 2011. I’m also keen to hear from people who are looking to open a business in the town centre, even if it’s only an initial idea.”
Those considering opening a new business in Llangefni town centre should contact Alan Southall at Anglesey Business Centre on (01248) 752474 or email [email protected] . Alan’s post is part of the Anglesey Three Towns Programme, which is funded by the European Union and Welsh Assembly Government.
