A course aimed at developing Pembrokeshire‘s tennis tournament organisers got off to smashing start last weekend.
Nine coaches and club volunteers attended a specialist course at Narberth Bloomfield Centre’s indoor tennis court.
The course aims to provide qualified tennis tournament organisers for every County tennis club with a junior section – including the proposed new clubs at Tenby and Pembroke Dock.
Councillor Rob Lewis, Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure said the course was a good example of the little-known coach education programmes.
“These programmes are vital in supporting the provision of good quality sports coaching and competition for young people in a range of sports across the County,” he said.
The course will be the first of several Sport Pembrokeshire coach education courses for sports coaches and club volunteers that will be sponsored by Chevron as part of their ‘Energy for Learning’ programme.
John Deason, Sport Pembrokeshire Manager said “Chevron has a long standing commitment to sports development and to sports coach education in particular. We are very grateful for their generous support.”
Jane James of Chevron said its Energy for Learning initiative was world wide and the company was delighted to include some of Pembrokeshire‘s best loved projects in the programme.
“Through this new initiative we are able to support learning-based programmes which create opportunities for individuals to acquire new knowledge,” she said.
