Snowdonia Mountains and Coast – the activities destination for 2010

As part of the campaign, three brand-new booklets have been produced which outline the wide-range of attractions and activities which the area has to offer from mountain biking and climbing to sailing, rafting and various water activities to walking, mountaineering and a range of outstanding fishing locations.

Councillor Dewi Lewis, who leads on Economy and Community for Gwynedd Council said:

“The Snowdonia Mountains and Coast area is quickly developing to be one of the UK’s top tourism destinations for outdoor activities. From golfing, walking and fishing to more adventurous activities such as mountain biking, climbing and water sports, we’ve got it all for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors.

“With more and more people choosing not to travel abroad for their holidays, this is a great opportunity for us to remind people about the fantastic activities and facilities that Gwynedd has to offer.

“It’s important that we support local companies and the new booklets and the marketing campaign will provide a boost to all parts of the tourism sector locally. It is vitally important that local people make the most of the opportunities available to enjoy the countryside in their own square mile.”

The specific campaigns and booklets include:

A booklet promoting fantastic fishing opportunities which the area has to offer. It includes information about the top sea fishing locations, details about lake and river fishing and information about how visitors can net themselves a bargain with a fishing break.

A booklet about the Snowdon Sherpa bus network which describes six routes to Snowdon’s summit along with Sherpa bus timetable. The Sherpa bus network provides access to walks throughout the area – all for a pound for each bus journey as well as encouraging people to visit nearby villages like Llanberis.

A reference book promoting the 150 and more activities which Snowdonia Mountains and Coast has to offer.

The booklets will be distributed through marketing campaigns, tourism shows and through Tourist Information Centres.

The Snowdonia Mountains and Coast tourism area includes Snowdonia, the Llŷn Peninsula, Cardigan Bay and a part of the county of Conwy. The initiative is supported by Gwynedd Council.
