Somerfield Supermarket staff at Flint presented Flint RNLI Lifeboat with a cheque for £1500, from the Staff Lottery fund; the money is part of a massive £100,000 donation being made by the Somerfield Staff Lottery to good causes all over the UK. Over 40,000 staff work for the food retailer, and thousands have participated in their own charity since 1995 donating over £2m to local causes and charities.
Volunteer RNLI Lifeboat crew member Rachael McCarthys’ Mum Sandra works at the store, Sandra said:
“The staff were invited to nominate a charity and then there was a vote, I was delighted when the RNLI was chosen.”

“Sandra’s daughter Rachel is a volunteer lifeboat crew member and was one of our staff, I know everybody was impressed with her dedication to the RNLI”
Alan Forrester, RNLI, volunteer lifeboat Operations Manager, said:
“we are delighted with this unexpected gift, it costs over £1000, per crew member each year in training, and we do our best to raise this money locally, currently we have a crew of twelve, and we are looking for a few more young people who live or work in Flint who would like a challenge.”
