Rising star Sophie Evans, who will be playing the lead role of Dorothy in selected performances of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical “The Wizard of Oz”, took time out of her busy schedule recently to meet some very special children at Tŷ Hafan, the family hospice for young lives.
Although runner-up in the hugely popular “Over the Rainbow” series Sophie will be performing in the role once a week in the Tuesday evening performance starting in March.
The seventeen year old from Tonypandy recently appeared at the charity’s ball held in London. After meeting a young lady there who spends time at Tŷ Hafan, Sophie was keen to learn more about the work carried out, both in the hospice and in the community, with the families of life-limited children and young people.
“It was not at all how I was expecting it to be”” commented Sophie who spent a couple of hours chatting to some of the children and their parents.
“Tŷ Hafan is a wonderful homely and happy place with bright colours everywhere and lots for the children to do. I am so pleased I was able to visit and see first hand the difference it can make to life-limited youngsters and their families”
Sophie wasn’t allowed to leave without first making her mark on the famous handprint wall at the hospice.
