Jenkins the Bakers have some experience of celebrating the Harvest period – 90 years of craft baking heritage, in fact.
So, this Harvest-time, there are some special treats in store at their shops throughout South Wales.
Special plaited loaves, large Harvest Wheatsheaf loaves and bread displays of ‘Five Loaves and Two Fishes’ decorate the Jenkins Bakery shops from Carmarthen to Bridgend.
“This is our 90th anniversary as a business and we wanted to make the Harvest period a very special occasion in our shops,” said Operations Director Russell Jenkins.
“In fact, we have introduced a healthy bit of competition in our shops as they will be competing against each other for a best dressed window display competition.
“Our staff love special occasions and I know they are working very hard to celebrate Harvest and the fact that we are one of the oldest surviving family businesses here in Llanelli.
“Our 90th anniversary is a great time to take stock and reaffirm our values. We are very much a family business, caring very passionately about the products we produce.
“Quality and craftsmanship are always to the fore here at the Jenkins Bakery and we’d like to think that Harvest time gives some of our quality bakers the chance to show off with some very cleverly-designed loaves.”
Mr Jenkins added: “Tradition is very important to us as a third generation family business, so that is reflected in many of the crafted loaves on display.
“But we are also very tuned in to the needs of our customers and not afraid to try something new. So, for example, alongside our traditional products at the moment, you can also sample a Cajun Chicken Ciabatta!”
The Jenkins bakery employs 300 people, full and part-time, across 25 different stores in South Wales.
The company has the Gold Standard Welsh Food Hygiene Award and the Investors in People award.
The business employs 70 people at its Trostre HQ, while the Jenkins shop network stretches from Carmarthen to Bridgend. There are 13 shops in Carmarthenshire and even one as far afield as Powys.
