South Wales East AM appointed Shadow Minister for Equalities & Sport

Mohammad Asghar has been appointed as Shadow Minister for Equalities & Sport at the National Assembly for Wales.

He forms part of the Welsh Conservative shadow cabinet team which will closely scrutinise the Welsh Labour Government.

Mr Asghar said: “I am delighted and very proud to take on this role.

“We face a number of big challenges in Wales with regards to equality and I will work to ensure that this Welsh Government acts in the interests of justice, fairness and promotes opportunities for all”.

He added: “Sport is so important on so many levels for Wales.

“It is essential we build on the 2010 Ryder Cup by attracting more world-class events, increasing participation and giving our population opportunities for sports involvement.

“The first action of the 2012 Olympics will take place in Wales, whilst matches from the 2013 Rugby League World Cup will be played here too.

“The new Welsh Government must build on that and other opportunities to ensure Wales reaps all possible benefits”.
