With less than one week to go until the start of Wales Rally Great Britain, South Wales Police are encouraging people attending the event to follow travel advice, drive carefully and park safely.
As in previous years a number of special stages of the 2010 Wales Rally GB – the 13th and final round of the FIA World Rally Championship – are run in South Wales, including the ‘Shakedown’ that begins the event on the evening of Wednesday 10th November in Cardiff Bay and final four special stages in Resolven forest near Neath and Margam Park near Port Talbot on Sunday 14th.
Each year hundreds of spectators follow the rally throughout Mid and South Wales to enjoy the spectacle of the competition and the battle between the worlds finest rally drivers.
South Wales Police is working with Rally organisers, Dyfed Powys Police and the Forestry Commission to ensure everyone enjoys the internationally popular event in safety.
“Wales Rally GB is a well-organised and run event. It is great that Wales hosts this prestigious event, which has become the traditional finale to the FIA World Rally Championship. We went everyone to have a good time and enjoy themselves,” said Chief Supt Cliff Filer.
“We are expecting a large number of spectators to drive to locations in South Wales and designated parking areas will be available and signposted from major routes.
“We are asking people to allow plenty of time for their journey, follow these signs and make sure they travel and then park their cars sensibly and safely.
“Our goal is for everyone following the rally to everyone themselves while disruption to local residents and our communities is kept to a minimum.
“We would remind people travelling between stages to make sure they obey the speed limits and park legally and sensibly. Many routes surrounding the stages will be urban clearways and roads where parking is not permitted. Access will have to be maintained at all times and anyone parking illegally or causing an obstruction will be towed away.
“We want visitors to South Wales and the Rally to remember their experience for the right reasons! If everyone follows the traffic and travel advice along route everyone will have safe and memorable visit.”
