Officers from Bridgend teamed up with Halfords this week to offer a free bike marking scheme.

Members of the South Wales Police Triathlon Team were at Halfords on Tuesday 1st July to launch the scheme, where new bikes will be marked to make them more secure.
PC Paul Evans explained: “By property marking and registering your bike it makes it much harder for thieves to profit from stealing them. With the correct marking the police are able to identify stolen bikes much more easily and can also return them to their rightful owners when they are recovered”.
PC Sam Beaumont added: “Anyone purchasing a new bike from Halfords in Bridgend will have their bike marked with their postcode and house number using a UV marker pen. The bike will also display a durable sticker-which cannot be removed – to warn potential thieves that the bike is marked and therefore traceable if found or stolen.
“Halfords will then register the owner details of the bike via www.bikeregister.com. This enables officers to log in to the BikeRegister website to search any bikes that are recovered to determine ownership and assist in returning the bike to its rightful owner”.
