Caerphilly town centre is set to see a new state of the art construction on the site of the former Post Office building near Twyn Square.
The exciting architect drawings show how the new building will compliment the adjacent Tourism centre and will house a range of facilities including a modern library, a council customer service centre, a heritage centre together with other organisations such as Gwent Police and other community facilities.
The leader of council, Cllr Lindsay Whittle and Cllr Ron Davies, CCBC cabinet member for regeneration, visited the site today (Wednesday 16th February) to view the exciting plans.
“The development will provide Caerphilly with a new landmark building offering a range of services for local people in the heart of the town centre,” said Cllr Lindsay Whittle. “Caerphilly is a bustling 21st century shopping destination that deserves modern facilities so we are delighted to reveal these exciting proposals.”
Cllr Ron Davies, added, “The setting for this project is key it is opposite the town’s magnificent medieval castle, and our proposal is to re-develop it as part of our major regeneration strategy and blend business and tourism together. It will benefit the town centre and the wider community and I know traders, shoppers and residents alike will welcome this news. This new development will be an added attraction for Caerphilly that will bring even more people into the town centre and boost the local economy.”
Negotiations are currently underway between the council, police and the developer and an announcement about the final agreement is expected over the coming weeks.
