This October will see the launch of the Sport Flintshire Golf Roadshow. This innovative event will see the delivery of 20 tri golf festivals to over 2500 children with the aim of generating as much interest in the game as possible.
On the final day of this exciting event, two local clubs will be running fun sessions and golf skills challenges where local youngsters will be able to compete against some of the sport’s biggest stars.
Children developing an interest in golf after the roadshow will be eligible to receive lessons with their local club professional at a reduced rate to continue their development.
The programme is being spearheaded by the Sport Flintshire Dragon Sport team and is supported by the Golf Foundation and Flintshire golf clubs and is also sponsored by local business, HI-Tech Turf.
Matt Hayes, Senior AYP Officer said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for children to experience golf in a fun and exciting way and, over the two weeks, we will be delivering tri golf sessions in a number of schools. We aim to get as many children hooked on golf as we can with the support of their local golf clubs.”
The festivals will run from October 10 – 21 and are aimed at primary school children. They are part of Flintshire’s drive to encourage greater participation in the sport and are the beginning of a year’s programme of focussed golf development work.
Andy Morgan, Chairman of Golf Development Wales, said: “I was delighted to read of the exceptional response to the plans of Sport Flintshire in conjunction with Golf Development Wales and local golf clubs to provide an opportunity for local schoolchildren to experience golf through the planned series of Golf Roadshows this autumn.
“To think that over 2,500 children will enjoy a golfing experience in that fortnight is wonderful and a great testament to the legacy work that has been ongoing since the completion of the Ryder Cup, held of course, in Wales, at The Celtic Manor Resort last October. The children will, I am sure, enjoy the activity and their early taste of a sport in which they can partake for the rest of their lives.”
