Sport Flintshire team is recognised as among the best in the UK

The Sport Flintshire Team at Flintshire County Council has been recognised as being the best team of its kind in Wales – and the fourth best in the UK, delivering sports and active recreation activities and opportunities.

Independently verified and recognised by home nation Sports Councils, the Quest scheme involves an assessor collecting evidence from service users, community groups, partners, as well as from the team themselves. This produces an overall score based on a range of criteria, including the success of the projects it delivers in the community.

The Quest Assessor commented that the team is ‘proactive’, ‘innovative’, ‘driven’, ‘ambitious’ and ‘determined’, and that their service is ‘high quality’, ‘value for money’ and applies sound business practice principles to the running of the service.

Councillor Dennis Hutchinson, Executive Member for Leisure and Public Protection, said:

“This is great news, and an outstanding accomplishment by the Sport Flintshire team, who are justifiably proud of their success. It is a real credit to the team’s talents and efforts that Sport Flintshire is now recognised as being among the best in the UK.”

Ian Budd, Director of Lifelong Learning, said:

“Congratulations to the Sport Flintshire team! Sport Flintshire plays an important role within Lifelong Learning at Flintshire County Council. The team has an extensive sports programme in schools and throughout the community, they run large scale events such as the Festival of Youth Sport and also develop a coach, volunteer and instructor workforce to deliver quality provision within the county.”

Sian Williams, Sports Development Manager, said:

“As a team we are over the moon with this fantastic achievement. It is a just reward for the hard work, dedication and commitment of the team over the past two and a half years. It is no secret that our success has been down to a talented and dedicated workforce who drive excellence forward and also to how we demonstrate how we can contribute to strategic Council priorities.”
