There’s still time to register for the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile on Sunday 25 March! This will be the second time Flintshire County Council is hosting events, with one in Deeside and one in Holywell.
We have runners, walkers, families, cheerleaders and hoola hoopers signed up so far to complete the mile, with the local Army Cadet Force volunteering to help us with marshalling and also taking part in the event.
Entrants don’t have to be sporty to take part, but can choose to complete one, three or six miles, knowing that all the money raised will help to change the lives of people living unimaginably tough lives right here on our doorstep, across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.
The Deeside event will be setting off from North Wales Indoor Athletics Centre (Deeside College), and the one, three and six mile routes will all be contained within the college campus. In Holywell, the Holywell High School miles will all be contained on the school grounds. Both are set to be great events.
Deeside College will also be running a Family Day at the same time – after the Mile lots of activities will be available in the athletics stadium, from bouncy castles to welly throwing! This is all one event, but the family day will be to raise money for Cancer Research, so even if you’re not taking part in the Mile, you can have a family day out.
The event will run from 10am through to the afternoon. Before the Miles start, there will be a mass Zumba warm up session with local instructor Zumba with Netty.
Miles start at 10.30am. Pre registration is recommended but registrations can be taken on the day, as long as we have not reached full capacity.
We need local people to come together and show their support; to enter the ‘Flintshire Mile’ (Deeside Athletics Centre) or the Holywell Mile (Holywell High School), visit www.sportrelief.com. As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Sport Relief brings the entire nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives – so it’s time to dust off those trainers and enter right now.

Please Note: You must register online to take part in the Sport Relief Mile. Spectators are allowed at both sites, however, all spectators at Deeside must be seated in the stands and not on the track or on the roads. Each participant will be given one free bottle of water – however, organisers advise that you bring more water and refreshments with you and wear suitable clothing to take part.
