Sports boost for Gwynedd

Six sports clubs and institutions across Gwynedd have had a financial boost worth a total of nearly £5,300 thanks to Gwynedd Community Chest fund.

From football clubs to indoor bowls, the financial support from the fund will give significant support to various sports clubs and institutions the length and breadth of the county.

Councillor Roy Owen, who leads on Sports and Leisure issues on Gwynedd Council said:

“It’s great once again to see sports clubs and institutions in Gwynedd getting the support they need to thrive. Not only are they of great value to our communities, they also give people of all ages the chance to improve their fitness levels and to develop new skills.

“The funding that has been allocated will give a boost to a number of sports clubs and institutions across the county and hopefully this will lead to even more people in Gwynedd determined to keep fit.”

The sports clubs and institutions that have been successful and will receive funding from Gwynedd Community Chest this time include:

Bangor Gymnastics Club – Funding will go towards coach education for two coaches from the club so that they can improve their qualification from Level 1 to Level 2.

Harlech Football Club – The club is establishing a senior side and the money will go to send four coaches on a coaching course as well as to buy equipment for matches and training.

Neuadd Goffa Criccieth – The community hall/group intend on starting a bowls club and the funding will go towards buying the necessary equipment.

Talysarn Celts Football Club
– The club will use the grant to pay for training equipment  and to hire Plas Silyn Leisure Centre during the winter months.

Mynydd Tigers Football Club
– The club’s expanding and are ready to start a new under nine and under 12 team. They hope to use the grant to buy new kit and to buy all relevant equipment. Also two coaches will go on a Coach Education course.

Clwb Pêl Droed Caernarfon Borough
– The new club is hoping to use the funding to pay for Coach Education, to hire facilities and to buy equipment.

Sports clubs and institutions can benefit from grants of up to £1,000 through the Community Chest which is being funded by Sports Wales and administrated by Gwynedd Council.
