Children and young people from across Gwynedd have taken part in a range of activities held as part of this year’s Wythnos Ni – the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s week.
The week of events arranged by the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Partnership included a child poverty conference, a careers fair for young people, various activity days, a participation and rights session for children and young people as well as dozens of other local events arranged to celebrate Wythnos Ni.
Wythnos Ni showcased the achievements of Gwynedd’s youngsters and included a special young people’s awards prom to celebrate the contribution of children and young people.
Chairman of the Gwynedd Children and Young People’s Partnership, Iwan Trefor Jones said:
“As well as offering a wide-range of fun activities across the county, the week-long celebration also provided a fantastic opportunity for Gwynedd’s young people to have their say and voice their opinions about the issues affecting their lives.
“The awards ceremony at the end of the week provided a fitting climax to this year’s Wythnos Ni and underlined the fact that Gwynedd is a good place for children and young people to celebrate, succeed and enjoy.”
Councillor Brian Jones, who leads on Children and Young People’s matters for Gwynedd Council added:
“Wythnos Ni is becoming a firm favourite in Gwynedd’s calendar. It was very pleasing to see so many events being held throughout the county offering a variety of fun activities for Gwynedd’s children and young people.
“As well as being a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our young people, this year’s week-long festival also provided an excellent opportunity for children, young people and families to learn more about what’s available for them in Gwynedd as well as promoting the excellent work undertaken by professionals who work in the field. We are grateful to the Welsh Assembly Government for their support in helping to fund the event.”
The week was officially closed by a celebration prom held at Hafan y Môr near Pwllheli, where children and young people from across Gwynedd were awarded for their achievements.
Amy Askew and Laura Askew from the Arfon area said they really enjoyed the event.
“A great night, I enjoyed the evening and enjoyed the disco,” said Amy.
Laura added: “It was a really good night – it was great to receive a certificate and to see other young people.”
