Spotlight on Llancaiach Fawr

An award winning living history museum in the Caerphilly county borough has been hailed as a shining example of a venue using successful historic interpretation.

Llancaich Fawr Manor House was selected as a destination for delegates taking part in a special Interpretation Conference last week. The delegates on the 2 day event wanted to visit a key tourist attraction where the use of effective interpretation is helping to draw in new visitors.

Llancaiach Fawr is a semi-fortified manor house that allows visitors to step back in time to the civil war years of the mid 17th century. Stewards remain in character as they guide people of all ages around the house and tell tales of everyday life during those turbulent times.

“We are delighted that Llancaiach Fawr was selected as we believe it provides a wonderful example of the exciting interpretation that is on offer in south Wales,” said manager Diane Walker.

The conference looked at the role of interpretation in tourism; how good interpretation can make sites and landscapes come to life for visitors and create memorable personal experiences.
