Staff from Stagecoach Porth depot are taking on an exciting challenge this summer in aid of NSPCC Cymru/Wales.
In all, 12 staff from the depot will be taking part in a gruelling 24 hour bike ride on Saturday 27 August, cycling from Rhyl to Cardiff Bay and raising crucial funds to help make a fundamental difference to the lives of vulnerable local children.
The tour de force will be accompanied by two local Stagecoach drivers who will be on hand to provide bike maintenance, refreshments and hopefully some motivation if team members are flagging in the early hours.
The money raised will enable the NSPCC to carry on its vital work with children and young people. This includes supporting children and families through local services as well as providing vital funding to develop its national helplines – ChildLine for young people and the NSPCC Helpline for concerned adults – so that the children’s charity can be there whenever and wherever children need help.
None of these services would be possible without the continued generosity of donors, fundraisers and supporters.
NSPCC corporate fundraising manager for Wales, Nerys Sales, said: “We’re thrilled the Stagecoach team has decided to make such a huge effort to help improve the lives of local children. It’s a really challenging ask, but I’m sure they’ll make it all the way to Cardiff Bay in 24 hours – traffic permitting!
“The support of Stagecoach in Wales has been phenomenal over the past 12 months. They’ve recently given us free advertising space to promote our Helpline in their 600 strong fleet across Wales and the South West, which has really helped us raise awareness of the service.”
Marketing Manager for Stagecoach in South Wales and Stagecoach West, Nathan Griffith-Williams, said: “We’re extremely proud of what staff from Porth depot are doing and delighted to be working with such a fantastic charity. We wish the team every success.
“Stagecoach has been generous in their sponsorship of the team, but we’re still hoping local people will get behind the effort.”
