Stand and deliver – Halloween highway robbery in Caldicot Castle

Visitors to Caldicot may encounter a spate of highway robbery at the end of this month as living history re-enactment company 17th Century Life & Times sets up camp in the castle grounds.

The group is to portray gentlemen and women of the road and will lurk in the castle’s shadows looking for an opportunity to relieve you of your hard won riches.  The action takes place on Sunday 31st October between 11am-5pm when people will be able to meet the highway robbers of the past and witness their tales of adventure.  Things could certainly turn sour though if, as rumour has it, the local constable and militia get wind of this parcel of rogues.

Tickets: £3.75 adults; £2.50 concessions; £12 family ticket (2+3) under 5’s free – Monmouthshire Museum Pass Holders £2.50 adults and £1.50 concessions.  Call 01291-420241 for details.

This dramatic re-enactment marks the end of Caldicot Castle’s successful 2010 season, during which historical figures from Roman times through to the Victorians have taken turns to engage visitors with the past.  The Castle will re-open to general visitors on 1st April 2011, but before that will be the now traditional special free Open Day, on 27th February, as a celebration of Welsh heritage.
