Steam to South Snowdonia and Meet Santa on his Trains

Santa’s headed south from his Polar home to set up grottos in Southern Snowdonia, where he’s waiting to meet his fans, young and old, on board trains that head deep underground to a cave, alongside a lake or through the mountains of Wales.

Each weekend until Christmas Santa will be handing out goodies from grottos in a variety of locations, with a backdrop of beautiful countryside.

The Southern Snowdonia area is perfect for a family trip away either for the day or a weekend break, and stretches from Cardigan Bay with its wide beaches up towards Snowdon, and down towards the valleys around Aberdyfi.

The top five places to see Santa in Southern Snowdonia are

1 Llechwedd Slate Caverns, Blaenau Ffestiniog

This has to be the most unusual grotto in the UK. Head deep underground on a train to see where slate workers used to earn a living –with a  few surprises along the way. Youngsters will meet Santa in his subterranean cave  and receive a gift, while adults are rewarded with a mince pie and a glass of fruit punch.
