Swansea’s small army of Census collectors will be knocking on doors across the city this weekend in a final bid to round-up as many late 2011 Census forms as they can.
Tens of thousands of people in Swansea have already filled out the form and now collectors are mounting a last-minute dash to encourage stragglers to do their bit as well.
Sharon Brace, 2011 Census Area Manager for Swansea, Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot, said Census information is used by Central Government and the Welsh Assembly Government to decide how to allocate money for vital local services like health, social care and education.
She said: “Collectors will be knocking on the doors of residents who haven’t completed the form this weekend.”
Miss Brace said it is a legal requirement for people to fill out the form and return it to the ONS. She added: “No-one wants to face a fine of £1,000 for not filling out a form, but that’s what can happen if people don’t do it. So if you need help to complete the form or have lost your form, please let us know and we can help. But be quick.”
