Cardiff Council’s street cleansing team has beaten off stiff competition to win the national Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Best Service Team award for Street Cleansing and Streetscene.
Cabinet Member for Environment, Cllr Ashley Govier said, ‘This is a brilliant achievement by a totally committed team that frequently goes the extra mile in keeping our city clean. No one who sees our city centre after one of our many blue riband events can argue that the team doesn’t do anything other than a wonderful job in often very challenging conditions. This administration takes the cleanliness of the city very seriously and I am delighted that this cross service team has won such prestigious recognition.’
Cardiff Council’s Assistant Director for Environment, Tara King accepted the award at the ceremony in Liverpool said, ‘I was thrilled to receive the award on the Council team’s behalf. It was a very challenging but rewarding time for the multi-tasking team involved. It is a very competitive national award between every local authorities and public service in the UK and 375 entries were submitted across the awards this year. The entire team should be highly commended and extremely proud of their fantastic efforts. They play a huge role in showcasing our beautiful city to the world and it is tremendous have their work recognised nationally.’
The APSE Service Awards, which have been in place for over fourteen years, allow local authorities across the UK to demonstrate innovation within service delivery and continuous improvement in services provided to local communities.
Interest and recognition in the awards has grown year on year and the local authority’s winners and finalists receive publicity, both nationally and locally through the awards, which recognise their authority as being exemplary in service delivery from the wider public sector family.
