Tenants and residents of Maes Gwylfa estate in Deiniolen near Caernarfon this weekend took to the street for a party to celebrate returning to their fully refurbished homes.
Local housing association, Cartrefi Cymunedol Gwynedd (CCG) has carried our major structural and refurbishment work to homes at Maes Gwylfa, and after returning home, tenants over the weekend organised a street party to thank CCG, their staff and contractors for their hard work.
Work on the eight prefabricated homes on the estate is part of a wider project by CCG to bring its 6,300 housing stock up to the Welsh Housing Quality Standard.
Due to the nature of the work on the homes at Maes Gwylfa, which includes removing the inner and outer walls before rebuilding them with energy efficient materials to ensure homes are economical to run, tenants were moved to alternative accommodation by CCG for a period of up to nine months.
With all tenants having now returned to their refurbished, modern home, they decided to hold a street party to celebrate the success of the work.
Daniel Parry, CCG Assistant Director of Assets said; “It’s great to see that our tenants are happy with the work we have done on their homes. Asking tenants to move out to alternative accommodation while improvements are being carried out is a very big ask and we are very grateful to them for being so understanding and for their cooperation.
“It’s fantastic that the tenants have organised the party to celebrate the work and returning home and CCG are happy that we could also contribute, along with our contractors who carried our the work, Lovell, to the celebrations. I hope that our tenants will continue to enjoy their new look home for years to come.”
Wendy Powell, a tenant at Maes Gwylfa said, “We are so happy with the work in our home, it’s like having a completely new house! Even though we had to move out for a while, it was definitely worth it, the house looks fantastic. We are so happy with the work and that we are all back home, we thought that we would come together as a community to celebrate and to thank everyone that has been involved. Having a street party gave us all a chance to be together, we’ve had a good turnout and everyone has had a great time.
The improvements carried out to the estate by CCG is part of a £136 million pound investment in their homes by CCG as is part of a major improvement programme which is due to be completed by March 2015.
