A impressive number of students have chosen Council leisure facilities over private gyms, as their preferred choice to say fit and healthy whilst they complete their studies in Cardiff.
Over 350 young people have already signed up to the Student Active Card since September, a popular membership scheme providing students over the age of 18 years with unlimited use of all 11 sport and leisure venues across the city at a hugely competitive price.
Cabinet Member for Sport, Leisure and Culture, Cllr Ramesh Patel said: “As thousands of students arrive in Cardiff to embark on their academic career, it is important they have access to excellent sport and leisure amenities at a price they can afford.
“The Student Active Card was devised to competitively beat on price compared to other providers in the city and I am thrilled that so many students have recognised this and already signed up, enjoying a fit and active lifestyle.
“Cardiff Council amongst many other local authorities are facing tough economic challenges and it is important that we continue to check what competitors are offering in order to offer our customers the best value-for-money whilst generating revenue for the city.”
The new scheme offers students a direct debit option of just £19.95 per month for a nine month period which includes the use of gyms, swimming pools and fitness classes at any time of the day at all of the city’s Council leisure sites.
Alternatively, they can choose a one off payment of £179.55 which gives 12 months use for the price of nine months.
The Council still offers the existing discount card which gives students a reduced price during off peak and peak times for a one off annual membership price of £26.00.
