Student Satisfaction Levels Reach new High at Swansea University

Swansea_University_Logo_301The latest National Student Survey (NSS) results show that satisfaction levels amongst students at Swansea University are continuing to rise, with 89% of students responding that they are satisfied with their course overall at Swansea.

The NSS is a comprehensive UK-wide survey of students’ views carried out independently and anonymously by Ipsos-MORI. Students are asked their views on areas such as teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, the organisation and management of their course, learning resources, personal development and their Students’ Union.

Over 2,220 Swansea students completed the 2014 survey, representing 72% of all those eligible.

Swansea students rated their overall satisfaction with their University at 89%, 4% higher than the average satisfaction in Welsh universities and 3% higher than the average of all UK institutions. This puts Swansea University in the top 20 universities in the UK.*

Satisfaction levels in other key areas have shown an improvement on last year:

  • Satisfaction with learning resources up 5% to 84%
  • Satisfaction with personal development up 3% to 83%
  • Satisfaction with academic support up 3% to 82%
  • Satisfaction with assessment and feedback up 1% to 71%
  • Satisfaction with teaching up 1% to 87%

We have a total of 19 subjects in the top ten for their subject areas nationally and are first for student satisfaction for Human and Social Geography, Physical Geography and Environmental Science, Historical and Philosophical Studies and Social Work.

We have achieved 100% overall satisfaction for 7 subject areas including Human and Social Geography and Physical Geography and Environmental Science. We have also achieved overall satisfaction of over 90% for 21 subject areas including Genetics, Classics, Computer Science, History, Accounting and Finance and Chemical Engineering.

“This has only been achieved by listening to and working with our students, who play a key role in continued improvement.”
