…”It is cheap, it is healthy, it keeps me fit, it is fabulous fun every week to see what’s in it!” Simple but certainly effective, as this statement won Coleg Gwent students first place in the Rural Regeneration Unit’s recent competition.
Independent Living Skills (ILS) students at Crosskeys Campus scooped top prize out of all 320 food co-ops in south Wales, winning a four week supply of fresh fruit which the group will share between them.
The competition was open to all customers and volunteers of food co-ops across Wales and aimed to gain endorsements used to promote the benefits of food co-ops to potential customers and volunteers. Hannah James of the Rural Regeneration Unit explains why Coleg Gwent was hailed the winner: “It was a tough decision as we had lots of great entries but Coleg Gwent’s demonstrated the benefits of the food co-op perfectly and was quite catchy giving it that marketing edge.”
Lecturer Victoria English is over the moon with the achievement: “The group enjoyed composing the slogan thinking about all the benefits of the co-op – how reasonable the cost is, how it encourages healthy eating and the fun of checking each week the different seasonal produce we get delivered.
“It is a fantastic scheme which is now in its second year, which is incredibly popular across the Campus, for both staff and students alike.”
Coleg Gwent also runs a food co-op at Pontypool Campus.
