Often referred to as the land of song, Wales is well known for its musical talent and Coleg Gwent students will be putting their voices to the test when they all join together to sing the Welsh national anthem next week.
On Thursday 20 October all of the students who study at Ebbw Vale Campus have been invited to gather in the hall to sing Hen Wlad fy Nhadau. Head of Learner Services at the Campus, Julie Russell, explains why: “We’re Welsh, we live in Wales but not enough people can speak or understand the language so as a college, we promote the use of the Welsh language through various initiatives. The Welsh national anthem is just one way of doing this in an informal and fun way. And with Wales playing in the semi-finals of the Rugby World Cup this weekend, giving everyone a chance to practice, I’m sure we’ll all be in fine song.”
Julie adds: “We do this every year so this will be the last time we perform at the current Campus but we can’t wait to do it in when we move to the Blaenau Gwent Learning Zone – we’re hoping the acoustics are good in the atrium!”
