Wales’ loveliest girl is the latest big name to back the We Love Swansea campaign.
Miss Wales, Sara Manchipp, is throwing her weight behind a drive to support her favourite city.
The dazzling 21-year-old from Port Talbot is working hard for her chosen charity, the Joshua Foundation, which helps children with terminal cancer and also busy studying for a degree in Psychology at Swansea Metropolitan University but is still finding time to sing the praises of Swansea.
The We Love Swansea drive aims to talk up Swansea as a top shopping and leisure destination and as a fantastic place to live and work and one of the organisers is Ian Kirkpatrick, the manager of the city’s busy Quadrant Shopping Centre.
As well as Sara other celebrities to have come forward to support the campaign have included One Show and Strictly Come Dancing star Alex Jones as well as Swansea City football hero Scott Sinclair and the Swans’ manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Ian said: “The campaign got off to a great start and has really got some momentum behind it now.
“It’s brilliant that Sara is adding even more glamour to the effort to back Swansea after Alex Jones supporting us and I’m thrilled that the football club are cheering us on too.
“We want to tell everyone what a fabulous place Swansea is – we’ve got so many great shops, places to eat and things to do.
“We were very proud of Sara for representing us at Miss World and we’d love to be able to help her with her charity work as well.”
Welsh-speaker Sara said: “I love Swansea, especially at Christmas time when all the lights are up and it’s just magical.
“It’s a beautiful place in a wonderful setting. How many cities do you know which are so close to the sea and to the countryside and the mountains.
“Swansea is a great place to be a student too. Our campus is right above the city and the views out across to the sea are just stunning.
“Swansea has so much to offer with lots to do and a wonderful range of shops in the Quadrant and outdoors in the city centre and then there’s Swansea Market as well which is the best in Wales.
“The beaches are brilliant too and my boyfriend, Dan, who is a lifeguard, has promised he is going to teach me to surf – I’m looking forward to it but maybe I’ll wait for the water to get a bit warmer first.”
Sara has set a target raising £7,000 for the Joshua Foundation by the summer and anyone interested in helping her can contact her on [email protected]
