Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery, Bangor has reason to celebrate after successfully winning praise in a national quality assured visitor attraction scheme.
The museum received the status of Quality Assured Visitor Attraction by VAQAS, an Assembly Government section that aims to help museums to develop their potential as popular attractions.
As part of the assessment process, many of the museum’s elements were looked at including how do members of staff communicate with members of the public, the website’s content, the information on external and internal signs as well as the general standard of the attraction.
Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery was praised for the staff’s attitude, the standard of the leaflets as well as for the content of the exhibitions. In their report, the assessors said that the museum included an astonishing collection of relics which are important to North Wales’ social and commercial history, and the Welsh way of life.
Councillor Roy Owen, Gwynedd Council portfolio holder with responsibility for museums, said: “I’m delighted that we are able to celebrate the success of Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery. Winning the Quality Assured Visitor Attraction gives recognition to not only the museum, but also to all members of staff for their hard work.”
Esther Roberts, Gwynedd Museum Curator added: “The museum has incredible collections about life in Gwynedd in the past and these collections clearly shows our rich culture and heritage.
“We always work hard to develop the attraction and this status has encouraged us to do more and make Gwynedd Museum and Art Gallery even a better place in the future.”
A plaque will be sent to the museum by the VAQAS assessors to mark the achievement. The staff are now working towards a Croeso Cynnes Cymru – Warm Welcome Accreditation, which is further recognition.
