Swansea Council has announced the series of road closures that are being put in place this weekend to cater for the Admiral Swansea Bay 10K.
A number of closures are taking place between noon and 3pm on Sunday (September 27) and signs will be introduced to let motorists know about alternative routes.
Road closures will happen on a rolling basis as the race progresses to minimise disruption.
The following roads will be affected:
- Mumbles Road west and southbound from Guildhall Road south to Newton Road in Mumbles.
The alternative route for the initial section of the Mumbles Road closure is via Guildhall Road south, St Helen’s Road, Bryn Y Mor Road, Uplands Crescent, Sketty Road, Gower Road, De La Beche Road, Sketty Park Road and Derwen Fawr Road.
- The Dunns between Newton Road and Dunns Lane southbound. The alternative route is via Newton Road, Chapel Street, Gower Place and Dunns Lane.
- Mumbles Road north and eastbound from Norton Road to Mayals Road. The alternative route is via Norton Road, West Cross Avenue, West Cross Lane, Fairwood Road and Mayals Road.
- Mumbles Road from Derwen Fawr Road to Guildhall Road south. The alternative route is via Derwen Fawr Road, Sketty Park Road, Dillwyn Road, Gower Road, Sketty Road, Uplands Crescent, Bryn Y Mor Road and Guildhall Road south.
- Sketty Lane southbound from the Singleton Hospital service road to Mumbles Road. There’s no alternative route to Mumbles Road due to the Mumbles Road closure but access will be available to both the Wales National Pool and Singleton Hospital.
- Brynmill Lane from Bryn Road to Mumbles Road. There will be no alternative route to Mumbles Road due to the Mumbles Road closure.
Nigel Jones, Swansea Council’s Strategic Events Manager, said: “Ensuring public safety is always a priority and approximately 3,500 runners will be participating on the day with many raising money for charitable causes.
“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused and we’re doing all we can to keep disruption to a minimum.”
The locations and times of all races on the day are as below.
- Sketty Lane Car Park
The 1k at 11am for children aged seven and under.
The 1k for eight to 11-year-olds at 11.15am.
- Blackpill Lido
The 3k at 11.30am for nine to 14-year-olds.
- Oystermouth Square
Kickbike race at 10.15am.
The 5k at noon for 15 to 20-year-olds.
The 5k Welsh Championships at noon.
- Opposite St Helen’s Ground
The Admiral Swansea Bay 10k main race at 1pm.
- The 100-metre mascot race at the start line of the main 10k race at 1.05pm.
