Super sub Visser sinks Ospreys

Replacement winger Tim Visser ran over for a hat trick against the Ospreys as Edinburgh confirmed their status as league leaders with a comfortable Magners League victory at Murrayfield.

Visser entered the fray after just 15 minutes when Simon Webster, hoping to impress to force his way back into the Scotland side, left the field with a rib problem.

The Ospreys rallied in the final quarter to score tries through Nikki Walker, Jerry Collins and Sonny Parker but the Welsh region were ultimately to pay for 22min burst of scoring from the home side when they scored 33 unanswered points to snatch the victory.

It was a typical arm wrestle with both sides searching for the breakthrough. The match was 34 minutes old before a five-metre scrum gave Edinburgh an attacking platform.

Good lead-up work by Visser and Nick De Luca presented Ben Cairns with a chance and he took it with both hands. David Blair converted to give Edinburgh a 7-0 lead at the interval.

The Ospreys were hanging on in the early stages of the second half but four tries in eight minutes sent the Welsh region crashing to their first league defeat since October.

Visser scooted over for the first before he chipped and regathered to score his second. For his third he was fed by hooker Andrew Kelly to run in under the posts.

Fellow winger Mark Robertson then got in on the act after running over from half way. Replacement fly half Phil Godman banged over all but one conversion.

Ospreys stopped the rot eventually when Walker scored against his countrymen in the corner and further tries from flanker Jerry Collins and Sonny Parker brought the visitors within touching distance of a bonus point but they were to left Scotland without to show for their comeback.
