Cllr Carolyn Thomas congratulates Margaret Williams MBE and family

The founder of children’s charity North Wales Superkids, Margaret Williams, spoke to Councillor Carolyn Thomas, Chair of Flintshire County Council about her continuing work, when she dropped in to say congratulations on her MBE.

Ex-social worker Margaret 64 from Flint was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List, for charitable services to disadvantaged children in North Wales.

She set up North Wales Superkids in 1999 and the charity has four main appeals, the Christmas Toy Box, Festive Treats, the Caravan Project and the Craft Clubs. In its first year the charity helped 150 children and by 2012 it was giving out Christmas presents to 1,400 children.

Margaret Williams said:

“It’s the start of another year and we are looking for hands-on volunteers, particularly with fundraising or event organising experience.

“We are waiting to hear about funding for our caravan project but in the meantime jobs still need doing and we are looking for people who can help with ideas. The Caravan Project is sometimes the only holiday a family can ever have and it does so much good for families to spend that time together.

“We are always on the look out for materials to use in craft clubs for children aged 8-11 and I know it’s very early but Christmas toy box donations are always welcome. Maybe you have some new unwanted duplicate children’s presents or just other unwanted gifts that would be suitable for raffles or tombolas.

“One of the festive treats we try to offer each year is a trip to the pantomime and we always need a sponsor for the tickets.”
