Survey results helps tailor business support

Gwynedd Council will be able to focus business support for the local economy thanks to the findings of a recent survey.

The results of a county-wide survey, which was held by the Council’s Research and Information Unit and the Business Support Unit, have been published and will help officers to gauge the current local economic climate.

Nearly 300 businesses took part in the poll during October and November 2010 and it is hoped that their involvement will also promote Gwynedd Council’s on-line Business Directory which currently has approximately 1,200 local businesses registered.

The Council now has the latest data on the business sector’s opinions on important issues such as terms of employment, training, recruitment and business growth, which can be used by the Council to implement change and to provide on-going support to the business community.

The survey findings were made public at a meeting of business representatives, chaired by the Leader of the Council, Councillor Dyfed Edwards.

Councillor Edwards said: “The information the Council can collect directly from the business sector is vital if we are to tailor our plans and projects. The economy is always changing so how we provide services must change to reflect this.

“As a Council we are dedicated to helping the business sector where we can as we know how important it is to keep our communities alive, especially during difficult times like these.

“I would like to thank everyone who took the time to complete the questionnaire, and to urge people to take part in similar projects in the future so that we can provide the best services possible.”

Gwynedd Council will be conducting another survey in the spring to coincide with Gwynedd Business Week 2011 which takes place between Monday and Friday, 23-27 May. There will be a drive to obtain responses from bigger businesses that employ more than 50 workers, which should help the Council gain a better understanding of the differences between the experiences of small businesses and large businesses within the county.
