Suspicious male in Splott: Police appeal for info

Police in Cardiff are appealing for information on a suspicious incident which occurred in Splott on Saturday, March 19.

A man approached a 13-year-old girl in East Tyndall Street at the junction with the ‘magic roundabout’ at around 4.15pm that day. She released his grip and ran off uninjured.

Detective Sergeant Stuart Wales said: “The man was then seen laughing getting black into the front passenger seat of a black small shiny car which drove off in the direction of Tyndall Street, towards the docks link road.

“The motives of this individual are unclear at this stage, whether it was a case of mistaken identity, a prank or something more sinister.

“Regardless, this was a frightening experience for the young girl and we are appealing for any information.”

The man is described as black, taller than 5ft 6in, of chubby build but not fat, and aged in his 30s. He was wearing a black baseball cap with Umbro logo across the front in white writing, a white short sleeved t-shirt, grey tracksuit bottoms, and sunglasses.

A second person was driving the car which had tinted windows.

Officers flooded the area as soon as the call was received to try to locate the vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Wales, from Cathays CID, added: “As you would expect when as incident of this nature takes place we carry out house to house enquiries, increase our patrols, and check CCTV. This work is on-going.

“We don’t wish to alarm parents, but we think it is important that they are made aware of what has taken place and to be vigilant.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cathays CID on 029 2052 7267 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
