Regional AM Suzy Davies has lent her support to a local campaign to save one of Swansea most iconic green spaces.
The Rec, a piece of land between St Helens rugby & cricket ground and Singleton Park is the focus of the groups campaign, as they fight for it to be recognised as a Village Green.
Mrs Davies, the Welsh Conservative AM for South Wales West, said: “I live close to the Rec and it really is an iconic piece of land that the whole community use.”
Mrs Davies, who is on the Children, Young People & Education Committee at the Assembly, went on to say: “There aren’t many free community spaces in the heart of the Uplands and Brynmill area. The Rec is a real local landmark, loved and used by the many residents in this densely populated area of the city.
“With significant levels of poor health and well-being in parts of Swansea, I think the Council will be on the wrong side of the public health argument if it doesn’t support the community’s campaign to protect the Rec as the kind of community amenity it already is.”
Sandy Johns, who has been heading the campaign said: “I am so pleased with the amount of support we have had.
“Noah’s Yard has dedicated their sign for a day to help us, we have had a song made by one supporter to help us publicise it, and I am still collecting more information and photographs from people in the area to further support the application we are making.”
Following successful campaign meetings throughout the Uplands and Brynmill area there is one last opportunity for people to give their information in before the application goes to the Civic Centre: Sunday 23rd March- Uplands Tavern, 6pm until close
