SWALEC Cup holders Llanelli have been handed an added incentive to beat fellow Principality Premiership side Tonmawr in this weekend’s re-arranged second round cup tie by being drawn at home against Pontypool in round three.
Having beaten Tonmawr both home and away in the Premiership this season, Llanelli will travel to the Whitworth Ground full of hope in making it a hat-trick of wins and progressing to another all-Premiership clash in Round 3.
Pontypridd’s hard fought 17-8 victory over Bridgend Athletic has earned them a home draw in the next round against either Bargoed or Neath, while Swansea, who won 29-22 at Cross Keys are also at home against either Carmarthen Athletic or Bedwas.
Merthyr, of SWALEC Division 1 East, will be confident of making further progress after disposing of Division 1 East league leaders Newbridge in the last round. They travel to meet the winners of struggling Premier outfit Glamorgan Wanderers and Corus, of SWALEC Division 1 West.
Newport will entertain Division 1 East side Blackwood if they defeat Felinfoel, while Bridgend could renew old acquaintances with Cardiff should the Blue and Blacks get the better of Beddau.
