One East and West
Beddau tasted defeat for the first time this season in One East, as they were comprehensively beaten at home by Newbridge.
Tries by Mark Thorley and Richard Powell – who also kicked eight points – helped the visitors to a fine 21-6 victory, which also saw them leapfrog Beddau in the table.
Their failure to seal a bonus point, however, means Blackwood are the new leaders after they hammered strugglers Bedlinog.
Their entire back row – David Forde (2), David Brake and Gareth Rusby-Davies – scored tries, as did full-back Krystan Perry, in a 37-10 triumph.
Gilfach Goch produced a stunning last 10 minutes to edge a thriller at Merthyr.
Tries by James Howe, Matthew Rees and Adam Williams had given the hosts a 28-20 lead heading into the game’s final stages.
But late tries by Gareth Walters, who had also crossed earlier, and Adrian Williams turned the game on its head as Gilfach stormed to a 34-28 win.
Ebbw Vale stay fourth after tries by Lee Meredith, Gary Watts and in-form Wes Cunliffe helped them to a 25-8 win at Rumney.
Llanharan are finally off the mark after beating Treorchy 23-19 but there was no such luck for basement side Ystrad Rhondda, who lost yet again, this time 24-8 at Bargoed.
Bridgend’s superb start to the One West season continued as they beat their cross-town rivals Bridgend Athletic at the Brewery Field.
Kyle Barnett scored the victors’ only try, but it was Dan Griffiths, with six successful kicks, who guided Bridgend to their 22-13 victory.
Runaway leaders Narberth show no signs of letting up as they smashed bottom side Maesteg 44-16.
Wing Roger Davies ran-in a brace, while Steve Martin and Adrian Killa also scored, as Narberth opened up a two-point lead at the top.
Whitland recorded a first win of the season as full-back Jonny Morgan inspired them to a 30-26 victory at Waunarlydd with a brace of tries.
UWIC bounced back from last week’s defeat to win 26-16 at Carmarthen Athletic, Corus beat Felinfoel 33-19 and Bonymaen recorded a fine 29-6 victory at Llangennech.
East and West leagues
In Swalec Division Two East, the top three all maintained their 100-per-cent start to the season while the bottom three all continued their winless start.
First up, Tredegar recorded a 57-13 triumph over Llantwit Farde. Tom McPhearson, Craig Lloyd and Ronnie Kymes all scored twice while Anthony Simmons and Rhys Hallett crashed over for one apiece. The bonus-point win means the league leaders have now secured 25 of 25 available league points.
Mountain Ash also continued their winning run but were unable to secure the bonus-point in a 29-11 win over Penarth. Dean Phillips and Craig Evans both touched down while Josh Lewis was in imperious form with a 19-point haul.
Then Llantrisant completed the streak with a 39-7 victory over Penalta at Cefn Mably, Matthew Griffiths, Martyn Griffiths and Owen Osbourne among the scorers.
But it was Rhydyfelin that stole the show in the division, with an 11-try thumping of Caerphilly.
The Cheesemen could do nothing to stop a rampant Rhydyfelin outfit that blew the visitors away.
Liam Watton raced away for a hat-trick, Kieron Phillips and Dylan Hughes both grabbed two, while Scott Pritchard, Kirk Richards, Rhys Godwin, Damien Spencer, Dylan Phillips and Dave Gratton all touched down once.
Abergavenny’s Howard Davies was the story of Division Three East. The 49-year-old prop answered an SOS to turn out for his local club after three years out of the game. His loyalty to the shirt was rewarded with a try in a 37-14 bonus-point win over Croesyceiliog.
Davies was joined on the scoreboard by centre Jack Flower, wing Andy Watson with two and fullback Ryan Williams.
Elsewhere Rhymney continued their bonus-point winning start with a 26-6 win over Risca at the War Memorial Park. James Padgett. Chris Rowland, Gavin Coleman and Josh Perry all scored tries for the hosts.
In a mid-table battle, Newport HSOB beat Pill Harriers 30-28 thanks to a last-minute penalty. The hosts had looked destined to fall short after tries from Tom Diggle, Matthew Rees and John Burgess but Will Edwards stepped up in the dying moments to land his third penalty and pinch the win.
In Division Four East, newly-promoted Senghenydd won the bragging rights in a top-of-the-table clash at Chepstow.
The visitors secured a 29-5 bonus-point win thanks to tries from Gareth Short, Michael Hunt, Alun Ford and Darren Johnes.
Meanwhile, New Tredegar got off the mark to record their first win of the season at Crumlin. Phillip Davies, Dewi Winston, Aled Davies and Colin Jones scored the tries for the visitors and, to their relief, a last-minute Crumlin drop-goal sailed wide of the posts to give them a narrow 31-29 victory.
Ammanford’s 100 per cent start to the season in Two West came crashing down as they travelled to Cwmllynfell.
Wing Trystan Lewis and prop Craig Kelly tries helped Cwm to a 19-10 lead. Ammanford rallied late on but missed a late conversion and the hosts held on to win 19-18.
Tondu are the new leaders, overtaking Ammanford courtesy of a 44-20 win over Aberystwyth.
Newly-promoted Newcastle Emlyn have found life at a higher level tough, but they finally found a first win in emphatic style at Dol Wiber (CORR).
Skipper Bedwyr Harries and scrum-half Rhys Davies scored a brace-apiece to guide Emlyn to a superb 59-13 victory which lifts them off the bottom.
Crymych are still unbeaten in Three West, but they were pushed all the way by battling Llandeilo.
Wing Guto Griffiths scored the visitors’ only try but they were made to sweat on their 13-12 lead as Llandeilo missed a last-minute penalty that would have stolen the points.
Wing Tom Langdon was the hat-trick hero for Mumbles as they humbled Tumble in a thriller.
Kieran Murphy and Andrew Evans also crossed for the hosts as they continued their good start, winning through 39-23.
Dunvant won their first game of the season, beating Llanelli Wanderers 35-21, while Lampeter remain bottom after they were out-battled in a 22-15 defeat at Laugharne.
Three South West Leaders Kenfig Hill continued their storming start to the season by demolishing Nantyffyllon 71-3 at the Central Athletic Ground.
Braces by Chris Tossell and Thomas Maund were among 11 scores for the winners, while skipper Rhodri Clarke crossed once and kicked eight conversions.
Consistently-inconsistent Taibach held off a Pencoed fightback to edge a thriller at the Plough.
Damian David, Liam Gadd and Craig Jones gave the hosts a 29-10 lead and, despite two late tries by Pencoed, Taibach held on for a 29-27 victory.
Glynneath and Ystalyfera continued their impressive starts to the season by beating Brynamman and Morriston respectively.
Maesteg Quins won a fifth straight match in Four South West, beating Briton Ferry 17-10 thanks to a Rhys Milsom try.
In Four West, Scott Stephens scored a brace to keep Amman Utd top with a 34-14 triumph at home to Neyland.
In Four South East Llantwit Major continued their 100 per cent start to the season in a top-of-the-table clash against Barry. Rob Carter and Sean Shea scored the crucial tries for the hosts to give them a 27-15 win.
Elsewhere in the division Llandaff came out on top in an eight try thriller against Treherbert. Liam Emmanuel, Lloyd Baxtow, and Geraint Williams were the try scorers for the visitors. But tries from Robert Evans, Jay Johansson and a 10-point haul from Nathan Rees was enough to scrape a win.
