Swan’s hot-shot Sinclair spearheads new We Love Swansea campaign

Football hero Scott Sinclair is urging people to support a new We Love Swansea campaign.

The young Swansea City striker whose penalty strike helped the Swans to a 2-0 win over Stoke at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, is spearheading the drive to “talk up” the city and everything it has to offer.

The aim is to highlight the city’s virtues as a great place for shopping and leisure and as a fantastic place to live and work and one of its organisers is Alan Wallace, the manager of the Quadrant shopping centre.

Scott became one of Swansea’s honorary heroes when he scored a hat-trick in the club’s 4-2 win over Reading in the Championship play-off final at Wembley at the end of last season.

The crucial victory meant the team became the first ever Welsh side to reach the Premier League, having slipped from the old First division back in 1983.

The talented Swans player, 22, who is dating Coronation Street star Helen Flanagan, aka Rosie Webster, was the first name on the We Love Swansea team sheet.

He’s very fond of the city where he has experienced some of his finest footballing moments.

Scott, who is originally from Bath and previously played for Bristol Rovers and Chelsea, said: “Swansea is a great place to live and work and I am very proud to be part of the city’s fantastic football club.

“Being caught up at the centre of the celebrations when we moved up to the Barclays Premier League is a time in my life that I will never forget and one of the most memorable moments in my career so far.

“The city richly deserves a decent football team and it was great to reward the passion and loyalty of the side’s many fans by achieving this goal and I loved being a part of it.”

Swansea has so much going for it – spectacular scenery, great restaurants and bars and some serious shopping at the Quadrant Centre.

“Obviously I don’t come from the area originally but I have found it to be a very warm and welcoming place and I am really enjoying living here.”

Scott’s heartfelt Swansea sentiments were echoed by his manager Brendan Rodgers, the man from Northern Ireland who led the team to their latest triumph.

Brendan said: “This is one of the most beautiful cities I’ve been to. It’s absolutely incredible.

“That’s why I am pleased for the people of Swansea that we got promoted because it will magnify the beautiful city that they have and let the rest of the world see what a great place it is.

“To be able to give them that as a reward for what they gave me, made me very happy.

He added: “From the sweep of the spectacular beach next to the city centre to the Gower Peninsula beyond, Swansea is the most beautifully-located club in the Premier League.”

Alan Wallace, Quadrant Centre manager, said he was honoured to have the support of the two Swansea City men for the campaign.

He said: “They are two people who have come to the city and embraced everything it has to offer. Their dedication and hard work has helped the club reach an entirely new level and it is this sort of positive achievement in the city which we want to recognise and celebrate.”

He added: “At the Quadrant Centre, we like to think we play our own part in making the city a fun, lively and vibrant place.

“With so many great shops, places to eat and things to do, we have launched a campaign which champions the city and reminds both residents and visitors of everything which is on offer – a first rate football club being just one of them.”
