Swansea Council services over the Christmas and New Year holidays

Residents are being urged to continue to take care when they are out and about and look out for vulnerable neighbours over the Christmas and New Year period. Weather forecasters are predicting repeated thaws followed by more freezing temperatures in the period between Christmas and New Year. Drops in temperatures after a thaw can make conditions more slippery on untreated footpaths and roads.

Here are the details and essential contact numbers for Council services over the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

Gritting
Gritting teams will be on 24/7 stand-by over the Christmas and New Year period

Housing
Have a look at http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=10678 for opening/closing times of District Housing Offices in Swansea, the Hafod Renewal Area office and Housing Options on High Street.

Social services
Offices are open until lunchtime on Christmas Eve and for normal working hours on Thursday December 30, Friday December 31 and from Tuesday January 4.

An emergency phone number will be available when offices are closed. The emergency duty team will be available on 01792 775501.

Holiday rubbish and refuse collections
Due to the adverse weather conditions there are disruptions to the refuse and recycling collections which will impact on the arrangements for the Christmas and New Year Period. Libraries and other culture and tourism venues

Central Library is open from 8.30am until lunchtime on Christmas Eve. It will also be open on Thursday December 30 from 8.30am to 6pm and on New Year’s Eve from 8.30am to 5pm. The libraries at Gorseinon, Morriston, Oystermouth and Killay will be open at the same times.

Normal opening hours at all libraries across Swansea resume on Tuesday January 4.

Contact Centre
The face-to-face Contact Centre in the Civic Centre is open on Christmas Eve until noon. It will be open for normal office hours on Thursday December 30 and until 4.30pm on New Year’s Eve. Normal office hours resume from Tuesday January 4.

InfoNation
InfoNation on the Kingsway will be open on Wednesday December 29 and Thursday December 30 from noon  to 5.30pm. A GUM clinic will be running at the centre on the Thursday December 30 between 2pm and 5pm.
