South Wales Police in conjunction with the Mid and West Wales fire service are at the scene of a major fire on the Fforestfach industrial estate Swansea.
There are currently 75 firefighters at the scene along with 18 appliances,
To date no injuries or health issues have been reported and the risk to public health is regarded as low.
Monitoring is currently taking place of the air quality to asses any impact on the local community.
Local residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed in order to avoid the exposure to the smoke.
Officers from Environment Agency Wales are in the area assisting the emergency services with their response. The Agency is helping to prevent pollution to nearby watercourses and assessing the environmental impact of the fire.
The Emergency services are working together to minimise disruption to the local community.
Motorists should avoid the area to prevent causing traffic obstruction and are being advised on a number of road closures in the vicinity which are:
- Carmarthen Road – junction with Marquis Public House, up to Tesco’s junction with Pentregethin Road;
- Middle Road junction Ravenhill Road and Carmarthen Road;
- Ystrad Road;
- The Kingsway, Fforestfach;
