South Wales Police in Swansea have arrested two men following the largest single seizure of heroin in the city.
During an operation in the early hours of Tuesday morning, officers intercepted a vehicle at Clasemont Road in Morriston which had travelled into the city.
A large quantity of heroin and crack cocaine was recovered.
The two men, aged 26 and 57, have been charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs and remanded in custody.
Acting Chief Inspector Darren George, based at Morriston Police Station, said: “This is a significant seizure of Class A drugs said to be the biggest ever seizure of heroin which was clearly destined for the streets of Swansea.
“This operation conducted by the City’s drugs team in partnership with local officers highlights our continued daily efforts to ensure those who are intent on supplying drugs are actively targeted.
“There is a commitment that officers will continue to target those who supply drugs in Swansea and its wider communities as well as those who bring drugs into the area from outside the city.
“I must also emphasise the important role members of the communities across South Wales have in the process and making our communities safer places to live and visit.”
The two men, one from the Penlan area and the other of no fixed abode, were remanded in custody when they appeared at Swansea Magistrates Court.
Superintendent Phil Davies of Swansea Central Police Station: “This is a significant result and has disrupted the supply of a large quantity of drugs in our city.
“There has been a lot of public concern expressed recently regarding the supply and use of drugs in Swansea and this operation sends out a clear message that we will target those individuals who deal drugs and bring misery to our communities.”
