Officers in Caernarfon are warning that supplying alcohol to underage youngsters will not be tolerated, as a two-month campaign to tackle the problem of under-age drinking gets underway.
The warning comes after a woman from Felinheli was handed an £80 fixed penalty over the weekend for supplying alcohol to an underage youth.
The beginning of February saw the launch of Operation Caladine – a two-month operation that focuses on tackling underage street drinking and the problems associated with it. Officers are also intent on catching those who supply alcohol for underage drinkers.
Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant, Stephen Williams said: “Since the start of February and running through to the end of March, officers will be out on patrol and seizing alcohol from underage youths.
“Officers will also continue to challenge anybody who supply alcohol to anyone under the age of 18 and will deal with them appropriately.”
Since the start of the operation police have also seized a large amount of alcohol – including lager, vodka, wine, cider and alcohol. Officers have also taken a number of youths home and spoken to their parents or guardians.
Sgt Williams added: “Youths below the age of 18 should also be aware that if they are caught on three separate occasions within a 12 month period, formal police action will be taken.
“So far the response has been really positive. Our message is clear – don’t drink alcohol if you are underage and don’t supply alcohol to youngsters. If you are caught you will be fined.”
Anyone with information regarding the supply of alcohol to under-aged youngsters is asked to contact a member of the local Neighbourhood Policing Team on 101, or 0845 607 1001 (Welsh line) or 0845 607 1002 (English line).
