Tai Ceredigion Board and tenant representatives review progress with home improvements

Housing association Tai Ceredigion last week took its Board members and tenant representatives around the north of Ceredigion to visit estates, meet tenants and see the improvement works taking place. The group visited estates in Llanon, Aberystwyth, Llanilar and Pontrhydfendigaid to assess the progress and quality of the improvement works being undertaken to tenants’ homes.

In the company of Tai Ceredigion Chief Executive Steve Jones and Director of Property Services Llyr Edwards, Board members visited the Hafan yr Efail Sheltered Scheme in Llanon where there are proposals for a Biomass heating system to bring affordable heating for the tenants, then onto walkabouts in Penparcau. At Penparcau the group visited the proposed site of 3 new wheel-chair accessible bungalows and the four main blocks of flats at Pen y Bont which have been transformed with new external wall insulation and balconies.

According to Board Member Dorothy James, “I think it’s important for me as a tenant board member and member of Tai Ceredigion’s Asset Management Committee to see the work already completed by the association. It’s been a real eye-opener seeing the improvements and a rewarding experience having discussed improvements and ideas in our committee. Having taken time today to speak to a number of tenants, it is evident that these homes are more pleasant to live in and cheaper to heat now.”

The visit continued in Llanilar where new windows and doors have been fitted at Gwarfeiln and lastly to Pontrhydfendigaid to see the extensive green energy improvements all made possible with the funding from the Welsh Government’s Arbed scheme.

Steve Jones, Tai Ceredigion Chief Executive stated, “These quarterly tours around the estates are important for the Tenants Monitoring Group and Tai Ceredigion Board members to see  the variety of home improvements currently taking place both before and after work commencement. The regular estate’s visits are one of the promises made to tenants at the time of the stock transfer and they enable us to monitor our progress in meeting the Welsh Housing Quality Standards. Next time we will be visiting the south of the county and seeing the estates in Cardigan, Llandysul and more.”
